Summer 2022

Reducing the Impact of Poverty

Everything Peninsula Poverty Response does is designed to reduce the direct impact of poverty.

We are fortunate to have funding sources that allow the flexibility to respond rapidly when needs arise. PPR helps reduce the effects of poverty in the following ways.

  • Every free load of laundry reduces the cost and shame of poverty. 15 to 25 people a week participate in the Laundry Love program, and they receive 2 free loads of wash and dry.

  • Every sleeping bag, tent, backpack, and tarp provides a dry place for a person or family to sleep.

  • Every gas gift card supplies fuel to get someone to work, doctor’s appointments, and other critical travel needs.

More Than Free Laundry

Lily* is a young woman who has two jobs and lives in her car. After visiting with Judy, PPR’s Laundry Love diva, she disclosed that she was hungry and almost out of gas. Judy was able to coordinate with PPR to provide Lily with food and gas gift cards, and referrals to agencies that could help her apply for food coupons, housing, and medical insurance. This is what PPR does. We carefully care for our most vulnerable neighbors and friends.

June is Sustaining Members Month

What is a sustaining member?

  • A sustaining member gives a set amount each month.

  • You decide how much to give and that automatically is charged to your credit charged to your bank account every month.

  • You can opt out at any time.

Why are sustaining members important to PPR?

  • Sustaining memberships make budgeting and planning easier and more accurate.

  • Sustaining memberships allow PPR flexibility to respond to the changing needs of our community.

  • Sustaining memberships make it possible to leverage opportunities with other agencies and organizations to respond to local needs.

What becoming a sustaining member does for you

  • You have the satisfaction of making an automatic monthly donation to PPR without any hassle or fuss.

  • You have the knowledge that every month you are making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable and fragile neighbors on the peninsula.

  • You have the satisfaction of knowing your contribution is going farther – less stamps, paper, and administrative costs means that more of your contribution goes to help people in need.
