Laundry Love

History
Laundry Love began with T-Bone, an unhoused man living in Ventura, California. A question was asked of him, “T-Bone, how can we come alongside your life in a way that would matter?” His response was honest and practical. “If I had clean clothes, I think people would treat me like a human being.” Every Laundry Love program around the U.S. is attached to this man. His desire for worth and welcome is found in us all. We all yearn to be treated as human beings. This simple conversation sparked an idea that continues to influence and care for tens of thousands of people every month. The creative and collective energy used to sustain, expand and share Laundry Love reminds us that every human being has tremendous worth, value, and possibility.
In February 2019, Peninsula Poverty Response decided Laundry Love was a good way to help reduce the impact of poverty on our neighbors. The program costs approximately $250 a week to provide laundry services to 28-32 guests. It is solely funded by donations.

“This Service is huge help for all local residents. I use Laundry Love when I cannot afford to pay my own way. I am so grateful it is available. The residents that don’t need this are very happy that we don’t stink. We really love the Judy lady and Quarter lady.” Laundry Love Client
“I like to come and get my laundry done and Judy is so kind and she helps me fold my clothes. If I didn’t have a place to do my laundry, I wouldn’t be able to do clothes. They should keep it going because they help so many people.”
